Data Analyst

Health Data Nova Scotia (HDNS) facilitates research and innovation in Nova Scotia by providing access to linkable administrative health data and analysis for research and health service assessment purposes. 
Reporting to the Manager of HDNS, the Data Analyst will be responsible for providing methodological support to health researchers applying to use the health administrative databases held at HDNS. They will also be responsible for accurate and timely completion of data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with clients and researchers to evaluate data requirements and facilitate access based on expert-level knowledge of the Data Access Request process, intricacies of HDNS internal data holdings and related policies
  • Provide consulting support in all aspects of data analyst service provision related to administrative data and other holdings
  • Prepare well-documented analytical programs, either by writing new code or modifying existing code, to perform data extraction, data manipulation, and statistical analysis
  • Work with other Health Data Research Network (HDRN) staff to support national projects through the SPOR Canadian Data Platform

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related area such as epidemiology, health services or policy research, or health research methodology
  • 2 or more years of experience working with and analyzing large administrative datasets
  • Statistical analysis experience with SAS, STATA and/or R
  • High level of proficiency in health research methods
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to translate details into high level concepts
  • Excellent communication skills including advanced written and oral English skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with individuals at varying levels of expertise
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage concurrent projects with shifting priorities
  •  Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work to deadline
