The MSSU Research Data Analyst leads in the design and implementation of quantitative research projects which utilize administrative health databases. The role
requires a broad range of skills including program development for statistical analysis, interpreting and disseminating the results to a variety of audiences. The
individual will assist in synchronizing data availability with data requirements through consultations with collaborators and data technicians. The Research Data
Analyst has the ability to manage concurrent projects with shifting priorities and deadlines.

Embedded within Health Data Nova Scotia (HDNS), the MSSU Research Data Analyst provides methodological support to health researchers applying to use the health
administrative databases held at HDNS. This individual liaises with clients and researchers to evaluate data requirements and facilitate access which includes
providing support for external data linkage, maintaining up to date documentation on databases and active projects, and leading quality assurance analysis and
related enable the completion of HDNS and MSSU research projects.


  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in a related area and /or 2-5 years of experience in the field of administrative health database and patient registries required
  • High level of proficiency in data analyses, including proficiency in SAS
  • Proficiency in Stata, SPSS, R, VBA, SQL or equivalent an asset
  • Demonstrated ability in quantitative statistical analyses
  • Ability to successfully work in a multi-institutional health research methods service environment
  • Ability/willingness to establish efficient, consistent and coherent standard operating procedures for data analysis contributions to research projects
  • Commitment to literate coding to ensure data analysis code is documented, replicable, and transferable
  • Commitment to contributing to a health services/clinical research educational agenda and to mentoring junior data analysts
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work to deadlines and within budget
  • Excellent communication skills including advanced written and spoken English skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate data analysis methods and results to clinical and health researchers who may have limited data analysis training
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
