Past Advisory Committees

In the past, the MSSU benefited from the work of a number of Advisory Committees. The Oversight Committee ceased meeting in December 2019. The other committees ceased meeting in September 2018.

Oversight Committee

Purpose

The Oversight Committee (OC) served as the governing body of the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU). It provided a forum for the three provincial governments to collaborate and define support for the MSSU. Its purpose was to provide strategic, board-level support and guidance to the operation of the MSSU to ensure its success and long-term sustainability. The Oversight Committee was ultimately accountable for the obligations outlined in the MSSU’s bi-lateral funding agreements and for the strategic leadership of the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit.

The Oversight Committee ceased meeting in December 2019, passing their roles and responsibilities to the Executive Committee.

Scientific Advisory Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the Scientific Advisory Committee was to provide a link to the Maritime research community, to recommend inter-provincial research policies and priorities, and to serve as the official link between the SPOR SUPPORT Unit and Maritime based SPOR Networks.

Roles & Activities

The Science Advisory Committee provided advice to and took direction from the Executive Committee regarding building collaborations between researchers and knowledge users and advocating for the MSSU in the research and health care/health policy communities.

Data and Privacy Advisory Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the Data Access and Privacy Advisory Committee was to facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of the data platforms of the Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU). The committee was also committed to streamlining data access committee and research ethics board application processes and to managing issues related to privacy legislation and regulation.

Roles & Activities

The committee provided advice to, and takes direction from, the MSSU Executive Committee regarding the data platforms and issues of privacy and data sharing.

Training Advisory Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the Training Advisory Committee was to contribute to the training of highly qualified personnel, health and health services researchers, and Health Authority and government personnel in the areas of patient-oriented research, knowledge translation, and use of secondary health data. It accomplished this by bringing together representatives of stakeholder organizations to identify, implement, and share best practices in patient-oriented research and health services research, monitor regional training opportunities and needs, explore ways to collaborate to improve training opportunities, and advise on development of MSSU training initiatives.

Roles & Activities

The committee provided advice to, and takes direction from, the Executive Committee regarding these training priorities.
